Customer Spotlight: Push Notifications Return to Lollapalooza
Published on 30 Jul 2013
Music fans rejoice! Lollapalooza kicks off this weekend with the likes of The Cure, Nine Inch Nails, The Postal Service, Phoenix and Vampire Weekend gracing the stage. As more than 100,000 daily festivalgoers descend upon Grant Park in Chicago, the festival’s official mobile app will be using Urban Airship-powered push notifications for large-scale communication.
With last year’s app receiving a 60% opt-in rate for push, Lollapalooza organizers found push to be an effective means of communication to its massive audience. When a dangerous storm struck, organizers used push messages to evacuate thousands of people and again post-storm to get the concert started swiftly.
This year, festival organizers will rely on push to keep attendees up-to-date with important updates and information all weekend long. However, push notifications will also be sent to let users know about special surprises throughout the weekend (Hmm…you got my attention). If users miss push notifications hitting their home screen, they’ll have the ability to view all of the messages within the Lollapalooza in-app inbox.
Along with push messaging, the Lollapalooza app will include many similar features as last year’s version, including an interactive map, comprehensive list of performers, Instagram integration and the option to create a personalized schedule.
