ParaNorman: 2-Bit Bub Breaks the Mold for Movie Tie-in Games
Published on 8 Aug 2012
Wieden+Kennedy’s marketing campaign for the upcoming debut of ParaNorman, a stop-motion animated zombie comedy movie from “Coraline” maker LAIKA, included collaborating with legendary game designer Graeme Devine to create ParaNorman: 2-Bit Bub, the movie’s official tie-in game for iOS.
Described as an adorably odd action-puzzler with Angry Birds-like mechanics, the game features a bisected ghost-dog called Bub that players slingshot through 30 levels set in 10 locations from the film in order to rescue zombie bones. The depth of the game, its original music by composer Jon Brion and the detailed background graphics, which are photographs of the film sets rendered in 3D, offer a richness that’s uncommon in movie-related games.
In fact, Graeme told Co.Create: “I’m not looking to make something that is just a marketing fluff app that you can download and is full of pop-ups. I want to make a fantastic game in a fantastic universe.” 2-Bit Bub promises more levels when the movie hits the theaters August 17, and players can be the first to know about new trailers and exclusive content through push notifications powered by Urban Airship.
So what are you waiting for? Get your weird on by downloading the game and be sure to catch the movie when it hits theaters next week.
