Push Notifications Worthy of a Stanley Cup

Urban Airship pushes a lot of updates to sports fans. Between ESPN Scorecenter, the 2012 Summer Olympics and Wimbledon, we ensure fans get up-to-the-minute updates and game information about their favorite teams and athletes.
We’ve pushed messages for a lot of major moments in sports the past few years, yet we experienced a first earlier this week when we helped send push notifications for the Chicago Blackhawks app as the team went on to win their second Stanley Cup in four seasons. And was it a good one!
With 76 seconds left in the game and the Blackhawks down one goal, it was looking like the series was heading to a winner-take-all Game 7. However, left-winger Bryan Bickell was able to net in a goal to tie things up. Then, seventeen seconds later, center Dave Bolland scored the winning goal for the Blackhawks. It was one of the most improbable conclusions to a Stanley Cup Final and we were honored to share this moment with Blackhawks fans.
The Official Chicago Blackhawks App, designed by Atimi Software, saw its fan engagement skyrocket throughout the team’s thrilling playoff run. This included a 24% increase in use and a 22% increase in the number of users. Smartphones have become a crucial part of the fan experience and the rising use of this app during the playoffs exemplifies this.
Urban Airship sends sincere congratulations to the Chicago Blackhawks, their fans and Atimi Software. If you’re a fan of the team, this is a must-have app for next season. Download it free for iOS, Android and Blackberry.
