Up, up and away: Funding and new space for Urban Airship
Published on 3 Nov 2010
Good afternoon! People are in good spirits around the office today now that our big news is out of the bag. In case you missed it, we announced a funding round of $5.4 million. We also unveiled our plans to move into a new building in the Pearl District.
But we’ll let the pros tell the story. Mashable does a great job explaining what we do in non-technical terms. If you’re still unsure, give it a read. ReadWriteWeb, which always writes nice informative pieces on how technology relates to its benefits, explains how our new Subscriptions module for the iPad works and looks at its potential for non-publishing companies. MocoNews reminds us of our leaner days and how we gained traction early before we had VC money. There is a great story over at FastCompany that talks about our humble (albeit tasty) beginnings. Finally, Rick over at the Silicon Florist does a great write-up about us. We love you Rick.
We really want to give huge kudos and thanks to our new partners at Foundry Group. The team there, especially Jason Mendelson who joins our board, really shares our DNA. They are scrappy, hungry and not afraid to look outside the Bay Area for interesting stories and companies.
And on a personal note, I would like to publicly applaud our team here at Urban Airship. For many, taking on a role at a brand new start-up is risky. By joining our team (from some pretty established companies) they are granting me a huge show of confidence. I am very proud of what we have accomplished and of this remarkable group of people.
As I always say, the best is yet to come.
