We’ve Got All Your Bases Covered: Engage Your Customers on Windows 8, Windows Phone 8 and GCM
Published on 31 Oct 2012
We've been busy, real busy. After introducing Location Messaging with the industry’s first capabilities for location history targeting at the beginning of the month, we have now finished polishing our support for Google Cloud Messaging and also unveiled our beta support for Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 devices—all available today.
Urban Airship has entered into an alliance agreement with Microsoft to provide push messaging services for Windows Azure, with Windows Azure providing the backend cloud infrastructure for push messaging to Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8. Beyond joint marketing programs, we’ll have deep access to Microsoft for collaboration on future push messaging enhancements.
For GCM, we also worked very closely with Google to ensure the scalability and high performance many of our customers require for near real-time push messaging delivery to millions of devices. Urban Airship now provides full support for the GCM API, which is now our default platform for new Android applications. For non-Google Android devices, such as the Amazon Kindle and Barnes and Noble Nook, we provide push support through our Helium offering.
Upgrading to GCM is a simple process of installing the new UA client library and making a configuration change in the Admin console. We will also continue to support older C2DM or hybrid C2DM/Helium clients for the near future, and will keep you informed moving forward.
Our cross-platform push messaging support now includes Android, Blackberry, iOS, Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8, and as each operating system introduces new features you can expect Urban Airship to continue to handle the complexities of ensuring you have the broadest and most precision-targeted capabilities to message and engage audiences across devices.
