Urban Airship’s Mobile App Retention Study for Key Industry Verticals Finds a Major Reason New Users Churn is Not Receiving Push Notifications

Urban Airship analyzed the first 90-days of app usage for more than 63 million new users and compared retention rates against the frequency of push notifications received across key industry verticals including Retail, Media, Sports & Recreation and Utility/Productivity. The results show a surprisingly large number of opt-in users never receive a push notification and these users are retained at lower rates than opt-out audiences. Further, across all verticals and mobile platforms, users who received messaging at daily+ frequency had the highest 90-day retention levels.
